I do and from now on I am going to refuse doing those things. I am going to say NO.
But certain “jobs/tasks” need to be done.
How can we make sure the job still gets done?
The solution lies in understanding why we dislike those jobs. Then it becomes easier to find a great solution.
When we dislike doing a certain job it is our Inner-Wisdom telling us that something is not right.
Why is this job as it is “wrong” for us?:
- It could be taking us in the wrong direction, away from what our heart’s desire is for our life.
- It could be that it is better for someone else to do this job
- It could be that the time is not right
- It could be that we doing this job too often
- It could be that we are doing this job for the wrong reasons
So let’s explore the reasons for disliking that job.
The job could be taking us away from what our heart’s desire is for our life. Before we can decide if something is taking us in the wrong direction, it is very valuable to ask ourselves “If I dislike this, then what do I like? Where do I want to go? Many people know what they don’t want, but they don’t know what they do want. So if we dislike a job, we can start by asking ourselves “What do I want?” then we follow it with the next question “Is there a way I can use this job to get what I do want?” If we can see how it will serve us, our resistance will go and we can do the job happily.
If we cannot see how this job is going to serve us, then it is time to explore how we can get someone else to this job. Sometimes we can delegate the job to someone within our own company. Other times we might have to just give the job to someone else, outside our company. I know that how I treat others, it will come back to me. This means that if I give an opportunity to someone else, I will receive opportunities from somewhere too.
For example, I was asked to organise a Brain Gym reflexes course. I have heard that it is a brilliant course, but it is not where my passion lies. My passion lies with assisting people to change their beliefs, I like to take my work to people who normally don’t have access to this type of information. I also like assisting people to diffuse possible conflict situations. So I decided to give the job to someone who has a passion for reflexes and I think she has done a great job organising it. If I had taken the job on, I would have felt resistance to organise the course, followed by guilt because I would know I was not giving it my all.
Timing plays a very important role in creating The Life You Want. For example if we phone somebody at the “wrong” time the call will be unsuccessful, because they don’t have time for me. If on the other hand I phone at a time that suits us both, then the chance for success is much higher.
So if I feel resistance to doing a job, I ask myself “If I don’t want to do it now, when do I want to do it?
A good example is doing dishes. I don’t want to dishes three times a day. What I do now is that I have put water in the sink and I soak the dishes in that water throughout the day. I do clean the eating area after each meal to make the area look clean. I now happily do dishes once a day, instead of three times a day.
Marketing and branding is something that I had a big resistance for. It just didn’t feel right for me to keep on phoning people. I know it needs to be done. Some of my marketing I have delegated, but I still have to do something. Now that I have changed the name of my blog, I am so inspired to write and with my writing I am also marketing myself. People can now read more about how I think and with that they get a better idea what I can do for them. Even posting on Facebook has become way more fun for me.
Another way of marketing myself differently is to take Divinely Inspired action. So I only contact someone if it feel “right” for me.
Another example of doing things differently is using different techniques. For example this illustration I made, was the first time I used 3-D paint. It was fun to play with. I will definitely use it more often!
To come back to the blog writing, if I do it because my main focus is to get more business, it becomes tedious. If I write because I feel I have a valuable message to share, then it becomes easy and enjoyable.
For example: I have been writing newsletters and blogs for years, but the last couple of months I have been very quiet. I couldn’t motivate myself anymore, because I didn’t want to write blogs to market myself. I know I dislike receiving emails, where people are constantly selling themselves and their services. I didn’t want to do the same thing.
Then one day I called out to the Universe “How can I market myself in a way that I enjoy and I could even do it daily?” This is when someone handed me a book on blog writing. At first I wasn’t interested. Then after a few days I found a great new name for my blog BeingOtherWise and I am now totally inspired to write again. I write when I feel like it. I stop when I feel resistance. I start again, when I feel like it. Because I like it!
When we don't feel like doing a job that needs to be done, it is important we don't do that job at that moment. We either do it later after approaching the job from another angle so that we can enjoy it, or we delegate it.
Please share my blog, if you like it.
