Was it just another same old, same old year?
Or was it radically better?
If we want to ensure that 2017 is not going to be a “more of the same year", then we need to start doing things differently.
What is the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing and expecting different results.
What can we do differently that is also manageable and affordable?
Question 1 - "What do I want?"
It all starts with knowing what we want for ourselves.
If we don’t know in detail what we want, we can focus more on feelings and general issues.
When you answer the questions, you don't have to know specific details, but I do want you to write more than “Happy”
Here are some questions which are beneficial to ask ourselves in order to sculpt our New Year:
How do I want to feel in 2017, what do I want to experience?
For example – I want to feel fulfilled. I want to do things that bring me joy. I want to experience things where I feel that I am growing and I am alive. I want to exercise and eat healthily.
How do I want to feel in my work, what do I want to experience?
In my work I would like to feel appreciated. I want to have fun and laugh more. I want to enjoy the tasks I am doing. I want to look forward to going to work. When I go home after work I want to feel energised, so that I have time and energy for my personal life.
How do I want to feel in my relationships, what do I want to experience?
With my partner, I want to enjoy his/her company. I want to appreciate my partner more and feel more appreciated. I want to have fun together. I want to do things together.
How do I want to feel with my children, what do I want to experience?
I want to enjoy my children. I want to be present when I am with my child. I want …
If we want to travel from point A to B, we need to know where we want to go, and it is equally important that we know our starting point and that we accept our starting point. So be honest with yourself when you answer the following questions
- Where am I now?
- How do I experience life now?
- How do I experience my work now?
- How do I feel in my relationship now?
- How am I with my children now?
Question 3 – What can I do differently?
Do you have any ideas of (small), sustainable things you can do, to do things differently?
For example if you want to exercise more, but you are not getting to the gym, how about looking for a simple 10-20 exercise routine you can do at home that is enjoyable. When you enjoy something, it is sustainable. I found a 10-15 minute power yoga routine, that really works for me.
When we sit in a car that is standing still and we turn the steering wheel, nothing with happen. The car will not change direction. Only once our car that is moving, will we see a change in direction.
The same applies with our own life. If we don't take action, nothing will change except our frustration levels will go up. This is why it is vital to start with the ideas you have. Trust your intuition and follow through with the ideas that you have.
One of the actions you can also take is mind-feeding.
Many of us spend a lot of time and money on our external appearance. How about doing the same for our internal wellbeing? There is so much information out on the web. You can find videos and programs on all subjects. Use Google to find ideas to what you can do. Start watching inspirational videos.
