• Do you want to grow your business?
  • Are you looking for more clients?

For those of us who are a business owner, in sales or have a side-hustle, wouldn’t it be great if we could get more clients. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could meet new people who can possibly give us great service as well? How do you find these new possible clients and reliable service providers?

Networking.

With networking we get an opportunity to meet new people, build relationships and then hopefully start doing business with each other. Building relationships is very important because we like to do business with people we know, like and trust.

What are effective ways of networking?

There are many networking events out there. Take time to explore the options and find something that you like. If you are serious about networking, make sure that you are not wasting your money on glorified socials. Here are some of the networking groups that I have used.

BNI

If you like a structured form of networking, where people actively look for business for each other, then BNI is a great platform. I am a member of BNI, and it has helped me to meet people in my area, country and even internationally. The BNI members have been vetted, so they are reliable. There is never a 100% guarantee that they will deliver, but then you can hold them accountable through BNI. I have been a member for 4 years now, and I love it. As a small business owner, about 40% of my income comes in through BNI.

Chamber of Commerce

You can go to your national or local Chamber of Commerce meetings, which is a place to network for established businesses. I was a member for a year, quite some time ago. The one meeting I enjoyed the most, was a speed networking event, It was a bit like speed dating. every 5 minutes we had the opportunity to talk to a new business owner. And if you liked each other, we would exchange cards and connect outside of the meeting, to explore business options.

New kid on the block – Go-Connections

There is now a new kid on the block of networking. It is called Go-Connections. It is also called BNI lite because like BNI, we focus on building relationships first. With Go-connections, you don’t have to come to each meeting. You are not obliged to look for referrals for each other.

Go-connections gives you the opportunity to do speed networking, locally and internationally. As a member you have access to hundreds of networking meetings per month to choose from.

My experience with Go-connections

I have a list of things I want to do when I have a lot of money. On this list I had written that I would like to set-up a system where charities can get a sustainable, continuous income stream.

I joined Go-connections a few months ago. When I visited one of the meetings in the US, I met someone, who is setting up such a system. I am now working with him to set-up the SA side of things. I don’t have to wait until I have a lot more money, I can start now. This was a great connection that I made through Go-connections. I will write more about this venture in another blog/newsletter.

I also have picked up a few clients for my Apphirmations App through Go-connections.
